AKIRA 4K Theater Review, Marvel No-Prize Lore & Star Trek III at 60
The League crew reunites as John Hunt joins Matt Dursin and Clay N. Ferno to break down theatrical re-releases, anime milestones, and vintage comic lore.
We review the 4K theatrical presentation of AKIRA, debating the manga versus movie adaptation and classic dubs. We then unpack comic book history with a rare 1983 Marvel No-Prize book and a Stan Lee "No Thanks" letter, exploring classic continuity fixes and fandom culture. We cap it off by celebrating 60 years of Star Trek with Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and "Amok Time," ranking Enterprise designs and sharing memories from John's run as an IDW Trek colorist.
‘Tis the season for conch-tagging and Bahama Mamas! Tuck your arm into your jacket, settle in with some chestnuts and banana boooaaaats by the open fire and listen to The League’s take on the Christmas classic Jaws the Revenge, the movie that bought Michael Caine’s mom a house!
Clay, Dursin and Josh go back in time to talk about another sequel, Back to the Future Part II, a remarkable feat in movie-making that sees so many scenes and jokes carried over from the first one, but not all the actors. What else did we spot? Listen and find out! ▶️ Play/Download Here
Durs-imus Prime and Mega-John give their take on the original Generation 1 Transformers series from Marvel Comics, the only comic in history to produce 80 issues in a 4-issue limited series.
The Gents give their take on a different version of an old classic, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, and how Christopher Reeves was born to play Superman, and how Brando wanted his part to be a bagel. It was a pretty weird production.
Beginning a new era, The Gents take on a subject near and dear to their hearts: the 1954 classic Gojira. That’s Godzilla to you rubes. ▶️ Play/Download Here
