Ruby Rose as Batwoman in Season 1 (2019)

Ruby Rose as Batwoman in Season 1 (2019)

Pride News: Why Did Ruby Rose Leave Batwoman?

June 24, 2020 by leaguepodcast in tv, trailer, key art, comics

Happy Pride, Gotham!

Before the month is over, we wanted to give you an update on one of our most clicked-on articles, the casting of Ruby Rose as Batwoman.

Frankly, things have been a bit weird from Crisis…an actual global crisis! We haven’t seen any of the CW shows since Arrow stopped but with a Star Trek episode of Legends of Tomorrow, we’re going to sit down and finish the Arrowverse seasons this summer.

Rose has stepped away from the role of the Crimson Crusader, Kate Kane, and we wanted to let you all know why.

Thank you everyone for coming on this journey. If I mentioned everyone it would be 1000 tags.. but Thank you to the cast, crew, producers and studio. It wasn’t an easy decision but those who know, know.. I didn’t want to not acknowledge everyone involved and how big this was for TV and for our community. I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all. I’m sure next season will be amazing also. Xxx *hangs up cowl and cape. Also @mysmarvel

In a followup, tvline.com posted an update for fans. Rose responded to reports that she left the show because of the location and long shooting hours. She dismissed this as she said loves Vancouver.

“Don’t believe everything you read by anon sources online. Also I lived in Vancouver for a year working on the mountains when I was 18 because I love that city! I’ve also worked in other places in Canada.. perfect beautiful country.”

Warner Bros and Greg Berlanti in a joint statement had this to say:

“[We] thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best.”

What’s next for Batwoman? Season 1 landed with mixed reviews, 79% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and the trolls attacked from the audience side with a low 13% (the RT troll community famously hates when women and LGBTQ+ persons have power in the industry and reflect this with bad reviews).

The next season has yet to be cast, but Batwoman will not equal Kate Kane with a new actor. The cowl will be donned by a new character, Ryan Wilder. “Performers who identify as LGBTQ are encouraged to submit” was seen on the call for auditions for the roll.

We also can’t wait to see what Ruby is up to next! Happy Pride!
